MY LIFE AS A TEACHER IN MAFIA(JOURNEY TO MAFIA CONT...)

After long night Journey,then I was at the main town of Mafia which is Kilindoni.I went to report to the office of Education officer in Mafia direct from the beach where I arrived with Jahazi.I couldn't go anywhere since I knew no one by then.When I reached to the office of Education officer of Mafia, he had to ask one of his assistants to escort me to one of guest house,so that I could at least get a bath.I was smelling you know!!.

After finishing keeping myself clean, I went back to the office where I had to fill some forms and get the information about the school I had to go and teach.The school was called(or it is called) Baleni Secondary School.It is found north-eastern part of Mafia.

I couldn't go to Baleni the same day because I was so tired.Instead I used this day to get some information about Baleni village and the school.They told me that there are some daladala which goes that area.The problem of Mafia is the fact that all important services like bank,Hospital and even water services are found at Kilindoni town.I had to get prepared for that!.

The next day,my journey to Baleni started.I took small daladala which i had to pay two thousand Tanzania shillings and reach balen safely.The headteacher of that school received me well and showed me where I could spend the night and some more days while they try to figure out where could be my permanent settlement. 

Many thing happened when I was teaching at Balen School.One of these is the person who came during the night through the window of my house while I was asleep, and tried to strangle me to death. It was a kind of witch craft which took place.Another incidence is when an old man told me to look a snake which was climbing the coconut tree and told me that I would lose a very important person in my life,the same day during the night my mom died!.

Also I won't forget when I got an accident of motorcycle!. While I was down injured,one man came near me and told me these words; "That is your medicine and there are more to come if you won't go back to where you came from.

That was traditionally,but socially also I got  affected too.My family by then which was my wife and my child were very far from me.I was not comfortable as a teacher and that caused some effects to my carrier.Food at Balen was one of the problem.I was spending so much time to think where I could get food.Food was usually found at Kilindoni which means you had to wait until weekend to go get food at kilindoni.

Combination of all these problems was real affecting my teachings.Apart from planning my lessons I was just working on what to eat.I was also thinking much about my family and the kind of life with people who seemed not to appreciate my job there and see me like someone who went there to destroy their system of making sure girls are getting married after 18 years old .

I worked for one year at Mafia,but all this time I was looking for the chance to get another transfer.You might see me as crazy who always looks for transfer instead of settling and do my job.I'm telling you, there are many teachers like me in Tanzania who always are looking for the chance to move away from where they work.

Unfortunately for me,it was very hard to get transfer.Then I had to come with second option which is to apply for further education.(Now here is where you can get the answer why many Tanzania leaders were teachers.The fact that the working condition for the teachers in Tanzania is unsatisfactory cause many teachers to go for further education hence quit teaching)I got admitted to University of Dar es salaam and left Mafia for good.

As a parent,have you noted  that among you two (dad and mom) there is more children attention to one parent than the other?. On our last post we saw how my life was as a teacher at Lushoto and we ended up talking about every teacher being transferred away.I was the last teacher of that time who got transferred.

Do you know where I went after Ntambwe Secondary School?. Do you know what happened where I went?. Lets go together to this next working place where I lived very strange life which I didn't even expect to live like that in my life.Here we will start with my journey to the Island.  

TEACHER'S LIFE IN TANZANIA AND THE EFFECTS TO STUDENTS.

Did you ever think why many of the top leaders in Tanzanian Government were teachers before?. Did you even think why most of them had to quit their teaching carriers and become politicians?.

I will not give you the answer here but i just want you to figure that out by yourself after reading the real teaching life experience from myself as a teacher.I will tell you how i felt before about teaching and how I feel now,especially after 9 years of teaching experience. 

TEACHING TO MASTER SKILLS.

As a teacher before teaching you need to ask yourself if you teach your students to master skills of life so they can use these skills to control their lives or you just teach them to pass their National examinations.

LOVE LANGUAGE AND TEACHING.

Love is one of the very important things in teaching.With no love teaching is almost impossible.This is because love is one of the very essential human need.I can say Happiness and love are the to needs of human being and most of the time we are working for them .Due to that fact every human being has a language of love which when used the person respond,understand or become so happy. A person might also prefer other love languages but there is one which is most preferred by that person.These languages of love are as follows;

LEARNING THROUGH PLAYING.

One of the characteristics of a good teacher is to understand his or her students.Without understanding your students you won't be able to provide what they want hence failing to help them achieve their goals.All parents and of course teachers understand that play is one of the primary needs of children!,sometimes even in class apart from listening to the teacher, students would prefer playing with objects on the floor(especially if the teacher is keeping them sitting down for long time without giving them chance to be active in class.
